13 ways to make your home more energy efficient

  • Caulk around all windows and door trim both inside and out
  • Replace old, leaky windows if possible.
  • Make sure you have enough insulation in your attic (preferably you'll want 15-
    20 inches of insulation)
  • Seal any cracks around exterior doors with quality weather stripping
  • Have your heating and cooling system checked annually
  • Use spray expanding foam to seal openings around water spigots or other
    pipes
  • If you have a crawl space, install insulation between the floor joists (paper
    goes up to the floor)
  • If you have living space above your garage, make sure the second story floor
    is properly insulated
  • Insulate your water heater
  • Replace your refrigerator if it’s more than 10 years old
  • Insulate any water pipes that might be exposed to the elements
  • Install proper ventilation in your attic
  • Install window tint or heavy curtains to cut back on sunlight from heating your
    house during the summer
